Brington & Molesworth Parish Council would like to clarify the position in regard to Village Matters. Unfortunately, it appears that some residents may have been given incorrect information in regard to potential funding, and we are therefore responding to set the matter out clearly.
- At the most recent Annual Assembly, held on the 21st May 2026, a letter from the editor of Village Matters was noted by the Assembly and a representative from Molesworth also spoke to those in attendance. Our records indicated that only a very few parishioners were present at this meeting, however the minutes will be available on the Parish Council website in due course.
- As the matter was raised to the Annual Assembly, it was not able to be discussed at the then following Annual Parish Council Meeting as the letter was not received in time for that agenda.
- At the Annual Assembly, the Parish Council responded to the correspondent present that her request had been noted and that we would formally respond to the letter from the editor. We also explained to the correspondent the process that would then be required.
- We subsequently wrote to the editor requesting information and setting out the process for a grant.
- The editor kindly provided us with a copy of the recent survey conducted by Village Matters. We do not believe this is in the public domain and therefore cannot share it, we would however suggest that residents might contact the editor or your village correspondent to ask for a copy as the survey shows the views of 113 residents of the parishes in which it is distributed which, as residents will understand, will also be taken into account by the Parish Council when the matter next comes up for discussion.
- To be clear, the last time Village Matters was discussed at a Parish Council meeting, we approved a grant and this was paid to their account. No decision has been made in regard to a grant this year and the matter has not yet been discussed. Therefore, it cannot be stated that Brington & Molesworth Parish Council has declined to assist Village Matters.
We trust this clarifies the position. It is pleasing to see that a number of residents have taken the time and trouble to raise this matter, clearly with the interests of the community at heart.
There is currently a vacancy on the Brington & Molesworth Parish Council and we would urge residents to consider applying.
